Myopathies in animals

Nature

The myopathies are diseases that produce primary damage to the skeletal muscle fibre. Many examples of progressive myopathies resemble various types of muscular dystrophy seen in man.

Incidence

The most common and economically important myopathies of domestic animals are caused by nutritional deficiencies of selenium or vitamin E, or both.
