Moral pretension

  • Overcompensation for socio-cultural deficiencies

Claim

  1. Life in industrialized countries, and notably the USA, as experienced by most people, is so boring, uniform and devoid of significant soul, so isolated from the traditions of the past, that it demands to be raised and misrepresented as something wonderful. Such moral pretension thus becomes an understandable reaction to the emptiness and dullness of daily life. As such it does represent a form of quest for at least the illusion of distinction and value.
