Lack of business opposition to the arms race
Claim
- The business of business is to make money, which it does exceptionally well in the armaments and defence industries. Their hypocrisy is to be anti-war but 'pro-combat readiness'.
Counter claim
- Most of commerce and industry has nothing to do with defence. Businessmen remember war-time conditions and recognize that prosperity exists only during peace-time. There are numbers of leading international businessmen's groups who oppose the arms race, and national and local business alliances involved in political action to support disarmament, nuclear-free zones, and peaceful, international negotiation.
