Inhibited capacity to visualize a creative future

  • Dystopian visions
  • Absence of creative unity

Nature

The capacity of individuals to visualize a creative and meaningful future is hampered by a complex of interacting social images and forms. Cultural traditions limit choices to few narrow areas and fail to provide the ability to respond to needs beyond that culture's experience. Some project present trends into wretched scenarios, killing their own motivation to continue living, moving toward their dystopian visions. Acceptable futures are limited and often shallow: people are consumed with the desire to find some form of personal or family security in the traditional home or job, telling themselves that they are unable to worry about the future until the present is secure. The magnitude of changes taking place has resulted in a fear of the new by some and an infatuation for the new by others.
