Infestation by pubic lice
- Infestation by the crab-louse
- Phthirus
Nature
Pubic lice Pediculus pubis live in the pubic region and are usually transmitted from person to person through sexual contact. The adults cling with a very strong grip to the base of the public hair and attach their eggs firmly around the hair. Washing is ineffective; only direct application of a strong insecticide, such as DDT emulsion, or newer, less toxic formulations, can remove crablice infestation.
