Incompetence

Incompetence implies an interference with thinking which gives rise to defects in judgement and leads to behavioural abnormalities such as squandering, hoarding and gullibility.

A well-known phenomenon in psychology known as the Dunning-Kruger effect, states that the less competence or knowledge individuals have in an area, the more they will overestimate their competency and knowledge.

In the French 'Greenpeace Affair' of 1985, Frenchmen seemed most to condemn not their government's action of attacking the Rainbow Warrior, but their government's incompetence in the handling of the attack, as well as the subsequent botched cover-up attempt.
