Inappropriate substitution of artificial products

One way of avoiding products that are in short supply, dangerous to the environment or to personal health, is to find a substitute. The result of this substitution process, however, is that one becomes less and less related to the natural world, and more and more dependent upon a world of manufactured artifice.
