Inadequate legal counsel for political dissidents

The profession of an unpopular political opinion may damage an accused person's possibilities of being defended by a competent lawyer or by a lawyer at all, due to a fear on the part of lawyers of being associated in the minds of the public (including other potential clients) with the beliefs of the accused.
