Nature

Human papillomavirus HPV) is the agent for a sexually transmitted disease that can cause genital warts, although the infection does not always cause symptoms. Some strains of the virus, including human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16), increase a woman's risk of cervical cancer and have been associated with with head and neck cancers. A possible causal route for HPV into the upper respiratory tract, is via oral sex.
