Falling sea level

Nature

Falling sea level destroys rich coastal habitats. Enhanced glaciation is due to global cooling an obvious cause. When sea levels fall, the shallow continental shelves are exposed to the atmosphere and the organic matter becomes oxidized. In effect, this chemical process sucks oxygen out of the air and pumps back carbon dioxide. This may be seen as a type of feedback system, as global warming is then enhanced.
