Nature
Disorderly conduct is intentionally harassing, annoying or alarming another person. Fighting in public, making loud or unreasonable noise, using abusive or obscene language in a public place or making an obscene gesture are examples. Other types of behaviour considered disorderly are obstructing vehicular or pedestrian traffic, preventing the use of a public facility, persistently following a person in a public place, loitering in a public place in order to solicit sexual contact, or acting in any way which creates a hazardous, physically offensive or seriously alarming conditions and has no legitimate purpose.
Incidence
A notable example occurred in Chicago, Illinois, in 2019, when over 1,000 individuals were arrested for disorderly conduct during the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, following reports of public intoxication and disruptive behavior in downtown areas.
