Discolored teeth

  • Tooth discolouration

Nature

Some people inherit the trait of natural yellowing of teeth with age. Other tooth discoloration can be due to smoking tobacco, drinking tannin-containing drinks such as tea, coffee or red wine. Overexposure to copper, nickel, iron and fluorides also stains teeth. Teeth may also discolor after high fevers, jaundice or the application of the antibiotics tetracycline or minocycline. Some toothpastes are able to whiten teeth somewhat without damaging the enamel.
