Boredom in the military

Nature

Much of a soldier's daily life is repetitive and undemanding. Accommodation is impersonal, and lifestyle more restrictive and without the choices of civilian life. Even active service is usually punctuated by only brief periods of adrenalin-raising stimulation. The contrast between the periods of high stress and excitement, and military routine, can colour the background military life as boring, perhaps even more boring than is warranted. Boredom may be depressive or prompt excessive and destructive behaviour, such as rape or torture.
