Work-place newspapers

Work-place newspapers mainly take two forms. In capitalist countries they are produced by employee agents of management-ownership in private enterprise as 'house-organs' or by the instruments of political administrations in the public or civil service sector. In communist countries the work-place or 'wall' newspaper is developed from contributions of worker and village collective correspondents. Cooperatives in free-market economies have their newspapers prepared by the share-owners. Another kind of work-place newspaper exists among the staff and supporters of voluntary organizations. Work-place newspapers may often be composed editorially with a view towards the fact that these publications enter the life of the community. Thus they may contain both work-place and locality news and items of interest. Newspapers for the armed forces on active duty are a special class but share such objectives with work-place and wall news publications as education, information, exhortation and morale building. Circular letters or bulletins within organizations, such as those to parish priests, party functionaries, or branch managers are often a kind of work-place newspaper. All of the foregoing type of publication serve special interests and they cannot always be relied on for objectivity, completeness or accuracy.
