Visions of the future throw present reality into new perspectives. Creating idealized future scenarios allow participants to recognize elements of the vision as they are encountered in emerging trends and be able to make decisions about which initiatives and movements to support. They can also reveal the underlying obstacles, upon which, realistic action can be focused.

[Disadvantages]

The vision, if any, tends to remain at the level of enthusiasm and is not confronted with constraints essential to the design process from which action blueprints can emerge. If designs do emerge, they tend to be simplistic and to reflect the views of the self-selected group which worked on them.
