Video and audio signals can be recorded on magnetic video disc or videotapes. The tapes may be stored on reels, cartridges or cassettes. A videorecorder can both 'film' and record, and also playback. Video is closely associated with television whose commercial and public studies make frequent use of the technique for news and entertainment. It is also associated with closed-circuit television particularly in connection with the display of educational video materials. Television programmes may be live and have studio audiences but may only broadcast immediate video replays. This allows a minute or two to edit out objectionable material. However, it also allows for tampering with news and interviews for political reasons.
