Telegraphy

Modern telegraphs consist of a transmitter and a receiver with an associated teleprinter. The receiver decodes the electrical signals and the printer produces the telegram. Cablegrams are the international equivalent. A related technology is that of the teletype exchange networks. The sense of urgency associated with this form of presentation makes it useful for action-oriented messages. Multiple-destination telegrams may be part of political or special interest public relations or propaganda efforts.
