Study group

A group that gathers to conduct some particular coordinated line of research. This could be, for example, into the thought of an author, a situation, or a subject. There is generally a combination of "individual work" and group reflection that leads towards a conclusion that indicates the next step that is required for the group.[Advantages]

Intensity of focus, the richness that arises from the pooling of minds and insights stimulated by a disciplined structure. There is a strong sense of personal creativity that enables a much deeper than usual dialogue between each individual and the material or the subject at hand.

Can tend to become academically sterile and divorced from interaction in the wider social context.
