Puppet theatre

Puppet theatre is a theatrical presentation using two-or three-dimensional puppets operated by actors who are generally hidden from the viewers behind a screen. There are different types of puppet-theatre presentations according to influence of other types of art such as the graphic arts, folk toys, sculpture, masque, and the cinema. The puppet theatre may be traced back to pagan ceremonies with embodied symbols of gods personifying the forces of nature. In some countries, it developed from religious rites. Hand puppet and string puppet (marionette) theatres or performances cater now namely to young children. The stereotype puppet characters and the violent actions they are sometimes represented as engaged in may be counter-productive to child development.
