Pun

A pun is a play upon words based mainly on the humorous use of the identical sound of words that have different meanings, of words that have similar sounds, or of different meanings of the same word or phrase. The use of the pun is a powerful means of carrying a thought because of its emotional colouring and entertaining quality which may enhance the humorous or satirical effect, but the conceptual contents of a pun are usually of a poor quality.
