Pamphlets and other publicist writings express political opinions through rhetoric and through selective presentation of facts. They may take the form of lampoons, parodies or satires. Some famous thinkers were ideological publicists and the appearance of their works were coincident with pre-revolutionary and pre-reformation periods. Publicist works can take written or oral form, or be mounted on artistic vehicles such as music-drama, theatre and cinema. While being principally a legitimate form of extended rhetoric, like all rhetoric and advocacy, publicism may not be aimed at either truth or the public good, but simply at delivering minds and emotions to the doorsteps of a cause.
