Programmed instruction

An instructional technique in which material is divided into single points or items or composite small units, each of which requies a satisfactory response from the student before he or she may continue to receive or utilize further material. Included in the technique are rinciples of branching (accelerated learning) and reinforcement through feedback. The technique has been used in classrooms, in textbooks, and in a variety of computer and non-computer learning machines.
