Parable

The parable is a didactic and allegorical literary genre resembling the fable except that the parable form arises only within a certain context, does not require a developed plot and may be a simple comparison. The parable often conveys profound religious or moralistic wisdom. The parable's disadvantages are not only its frequent obscurity but also it may mask equivocation and disingenuousness.
