Pageant

Originally a term used to designate a movable wheeled stage in the medieval theatre, it is now applied to theatrical performances using a movable stage. This type of entertainment is usually spectacular, produced outdoors, performed by a large number of people of the locality where it is played and mostly historical or patriotic (formerly often religious) in nature. Because it can be watched by large crowds and because of its unsophisticated nature, it has a strong popular impact, and can be used to stir up patriotic emotions.
