Opera

An opera is a musical drama, more elaborate than a musical comedy, in which all or most of the lines are sung. The meaning of the libretto is mainly conveyed through the music and the vocal intonations, as the language sung (e.g. Halian) is often foreign to the audience. Musical presentation and mime are not always sufficient to enable the opera to be truly understood. In this way, operas reflecting archaic, discriminatory, offensive or regressive ideas are maintained in the repertoire.
