Newsreel

A film of current events, particularly as made on an episodic and periodic basis, is referred to as a newsreel. This form of presentation has been taken over by governments to create propaganda, and also by political bodies seeking to influence public opinion. The newsreel as presented by television networks may be the main source of news for the masses and may thus be a source of censored, biased or distorted reporting in service to the ideologies of the network and its advertisers.
