Mythical aquatic beings

Symbolic non-human anthropomorphic beings are represented as living in water. Such symbolic figures include undines, nymphs, Lorelei, aquatic sirens, various green, man-like beings, as well as Mermen (e.g. Triton) and mermaids.

Some of these mythic creatures represent wisdom (as for example Oannes, the Babylonian fish-man) since they rise from the deep. Others represent the unconscious world of repressed desires and memories which may appear seductive to the conscious ego.
