Mosaic

A mosaic is a surface decorated with designs made up of closely set, small pieces of material such as pebbles, glass, tile, or shell. Mosaic is one of the principal genres of monumental decorative art. it is also used to embellish works of the decorative and applied arts. Mosaics may be of a representational or of a nonrepresentational nature.
