Minstrel show

A minstrel show, now only surviving in amateur performances, was a US and British theatrical form comprising a group of blackfaced minstrels whose material caricatured the singing and dancing of Negro slaves. It consisted of dialogue, song, and dance in a set pattern. Its influence was evident in vaudeville, radio, television, and motion pictures in the 20th century, but its main impact came through its folk music and dances.
