A message is generally considered an intentional communication between beings, or within beings as a descriptive term for neural actions. Messages may be characterized by their medium and their meaning. In intentional communications it is considered that the meaning is situated in the syntax or artificial organization of properties of the medium: viz. sounds, words, letters, codes, pulses, symbols, etc. However, the choice of medium itself constitutes a message and this implicit message may reinforce or diminish the explicit meaning. Personal bad news, for example, may be presented to one by a public television broadcast or privately by an intimate friend. Messages also invariably contain, according to information theory, a certain amount of 'noise'. This noise can include redundant words or incomprehensible or difficult to interpret elements or structures. Viewed as solely an intellectual product, intentional messages fail to convey the full range of human feelings, emotions and experience.
