A monthly or other periodic popular publication directed towards market-differentialed audiences with sometimes considerable advertising. Different magazines cater to different interests ranging from the sensual and physical to the cuotural, intellectual and religious. The more abstract the interest the less advertising there is less 'popular' magazines do not solely rely on newstand sales but promote subscriptions, and memberships in the related societies who are often their publishers (e.g. geography and science magazines). Religious magazines are subsidized by the organizations publishing them.
