Jewellery and adornments symbolize wealth and social status. Civilian badges and awards (lapel pins, brooches, insignia) are symbols of ostentatious virtue. Sport trophies are symbols of psychological compensation for persons or groups with innate low self-esteem. War booty; the enemy's helmet, insignia, equipment, clothing or weapons; represents the animal satisfaction of brutal conquest.
