International statistics

Economic, demographic and social statistics are compiled and published by almost all intergovernmental organizations. These organizations play a construction rôle in influencing natural governments to adapt comparable statistical methodologies. Among the intergovernmental bodies are the UN Statistical Commission, the EEC's Eurostat Agency and the Standing Commission on Statistics of COMECON. Analysis of international comparative statistics is essential for governmental and intergovernmental policymaking but, while considerable international cooperation has been achieved in publishing data, the national statistics presented have been subject in some cases to politicization characterized by international omissions and distortions.
