Facilitation

Facilitators are enable the group to make decisions; they do not make decisions for the group. Facilitators are not only responsible for the care of the decision-making dynamics, but also for guarding and, where needed, promoting, the capacity of the group to transform its fundamental assumptions. Thus, those with vested interests in an existing perspective or in some idealized opposition perspective are inappropriate facilitators, as neither can readily gain the group's trust. For this reason the facilitator is necessarily possibility-oriented, but from a practical rather than a theoretical perspective.
