Dialect

Variant of a language in terms of pronunciation but also it may be associated with local vocabulary and idioms. Less noticeably, dialects may embody preferences for words and syntax, which while normative as isolated instances may be statistically significant in terms of frequency. Dialects may arise due to geographical separation of groups, or due to contacts with other languages. In the totality and in the specificities of its variance a dialect, it is sometimes argued, can reveal a characteristic world outlook, experience or temprament among its users.
