Conference rituals

Every event has a set of rituals. At minimum there are rituals that mark as significant the beginning and ending of the event. The welcoming and closing banquets may be the simplest and most common of these. In addition there are usually literally hundreds of rites that are a part of the life of a conference. They start the day, open a meeting, introduce a speaker, get people to meals, create relations, and catalyze other acts. Most are associated with the larger culture but some may be created for the event or the organization holding the event.
