Conference relationships

Conference relationships are not only the responsibility of the participants themselves. Consider in light of the intent of the event what procedure will be used for introducing people. Design an approach that fits the group and its work, but do not simply pass it over. Consider also the times and dynamics appropriate for people to make personal contacts. If only social occasions are provided for this, the assumption may be implicit that participants' relationships are basically social. Sometimes a time of interchange of work can be valuable for allowing people the opportunity not simply to know one another as individuals but to gain appreciation of one another's work.
