In-conference computer contact system

Computerized registration systems that can put participants in contact with the conference environment and with what is going on, and with the organizers and other participants. Forms can be filled in that record relevant items of identification and preference which can then be used as a basis for distributing messages of particular relevance to particular groups of people, as well as a basis for arranging for meetings with people of similar interests. Computer terminals strategically located in all parts of the building can be used to update and maintain continuous communication. Messages can be exchanged generally or specifically addressed to other participants and "pigeon-holed" for collection.[Advantages]

The possibility of the exchange of messages of "serious" or "frivolous" nature increases the fluidity of any occasion allowing for more spontaneity and flexibility. Up to date reports of proceedings in different groups within the conference can be available, and allow participants to choose where they get involved and to communicate something when they are not able to attend in person. Those who type in an "identifier" can receive messages and thereby speed up the process of making contact with people who share their interests.

Cost (though this can be covered by participants paying for facilities they use) can become a distracting fad, appearing to be gimmicky. Some participants are put off by high technology gadgets and the system is very dependent on the style of assistants and the level of enthusiasm shown for putting in material. The system is open to abuse either casual or imaginatively destructive.
