Chorus

Any body of singers in any circumstance of public presentation may be said to constitute a chorus. Technically, a mixed chorus contains sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. Such a chorus requires at minimum three singers in each group to permit consecutive breathing. The largest regularly performing choruses rarely exceed ten times this number, or 120 singers in all. A chorus may perform alone or as part of another musical stage or concert event. The original chorus, the ancient Greek, danced as well as spoke and sang on stage. This tradition is preserved in revues or burlesque variety shows where the dancers are referred to as the chorus-line.
