Audio-tape recording

There are many sophisticated ways to tape-record meetings using reel to reel cassette or mini-cassette recorders; these can be transcribed into printed material, stored, or copied onto other tapes for distribution. Speech activated microphones and other new technology is greatly improving this recording system.[Advantages]

A low-profile, unobtrusive way to make a record of everything that is said. It can be encouraging and reassuring to participants that the insights and breakthroughs that occur in lively interaction are on record for later processing and recall.

[Disadvantages]

Some people find it disconcerting to be recorded and find their expression cramped. Quiet speakers and speakers competing with each other or with other extraneous noises like coughing or laughter may not be audible unless there are well placed and well adjusted microphones.
