Utopia

Utopia is an expression derived from Thomas More's book of the same name (literally "nowhere"), to describe an ideal society or social system, usually accepted as unrealizable in fact. The chief argument levelled against endeavours to achieve "Utopian" society is that the totalitarian nature of such a system is against human nature and threatens individuality. Fears of the manipulation of personal behaviour and consciousness have resulted in such literary works as Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" and George Orwell's "1984".
