Reinforcement

This is the phenomenon by which learning is aided by an external positive impulse when a correct response is given during the learning situation. Such an impulse may be simply a smile or the offering of a reward in terms of food, etc. In other words, an individual is more likely to respond in the manner desired if by doing so he or she will receive something in return.
