Physique and temperament

The three physical types - [endomorph]

or "oval", [ectomorph]

or "angular", and [mesomorph]

or "muscular" - are said to correspond to three temperaments - [viscerotonic]

(with a passion for eating), [cerebrotonic]

(with a tendency to worry mentally over everything), and [somatotonic]

(with the emphasis on action and risk-taking). According to W.H. Sheldon, one can use this correspondance to quantify temperament on a scale indicated by the body's physical characteristics.
