Neomammalian neocortex human brain consciousness

In terms of brain evolution theory, the neocortex is specifically, in relative size, the human brain. The limbic system is only paleomammalian while the brain stem corresponds to the reptile stage of evolution. The neocortex specializes in learning new ways to adapt its functions for human survival. It is concerned with voluntary movements, whereas the lower brains affect the autonomous nervous system.
