Description

According to R. Assagioli, this is the lowest region of a tripartite division of the unconscious mind and contains the elementary intelligence or purposeful activities which direct the vital physical, bodily functions, and regulate and integrate them into the unitary purpose of sustaining the human life form. Here also is the level of consciousness where the basic urges and drives that lead to compelling behavioural expression, reside in their mental form. The lower unconscious embraces many compartments. It not only relates to maintaining the body as a biological individual, but also as a psychological individual, as it is here that is found the storehouse of emotional complexes, as well as the activities that produce dreams, fantasies, and involuntary abnormal mental activity, whether pathological or anomalous.
