Intentionality

Consciousness has the structure of intentionality or may even be considered as intentionality. Since consciousness cannot be aware of itself, it must be consciousness of something other, an object or meaning for consciousness. Hence in cognitive perception there is an indissoluble unity between the conscious mind and the object of which it is conscious. The structural relationship between consciousness and what is observed is referred to as [intentionality]

theory. Whereas in the norma processes of cognition the dimension of mind is invisible, the intentionality of consciousness makes clear the difference between the meaning which is what is seen and the meaning of what is seen.
