Ideological commitment

This refers to the commitment to a coherent totality of ideas and ideals which goes beyond knowledge of such ideas and the passive acceptance of certain principles, and which implies consistent loyalty at all levels - theoretical and practical. Ideological commitment will cause an individual to see and act beyond his or her own narrow or local sphere of interests and to assess any new ideas or circumstances in the light of this ideology. It acts as a source of energy, moral courage and enthusiasm, and leads to acts of heroism.
