Human scale development

Development is scaled: to allow satisfaction of fundamental human needs; to generate increasing levels of self-reliance; and to construct coherent and consistent relations of balanced interdependence of people with nature and technology, of global with local processes, of personal with social, of planning with autonomy, and of civil society with the state. All this requires creating conditions in which people take the lead in their own future. Their areas of activity must be respected both in their diversity and their autonomy. The individual as object cannot be transformed to the individual as subject in enormous, hierarchical systems where decisions flow from the top downwards.
