Ethological interpretation of behaviour

A pure survival value is placed on all human behaviour. Whatever one feels to the contrary, a baby smiles at its mother to create a feeling of pleasure in the mother and thus foster maternal feeling which ensures the baby's survival. This interpretation assumes innate response must necessarily be divorced from conscious experience and ignores unselfish love or attachment.
