Cryptomnesia

What in fact is a memory is here experienced as something totally new. A composer may write a tune which he subsequently recognizes as a perfectly well-known tune written by somebody else; a raconteur may tell a joke as his own which was originally told to him by the person to whom he is recounting it. A novel solution to a problem may present itself, which is subsequently realized has either arisen before or actually been suggested by someone else.
